Developers Reveal Plans for South Shields New Transport Interchange.
Plans for the next phase of the regeneration of South Shields town centre as part of the £100million 365 masterplan and the construction of a new transport interchange will be revealed to local residents and businesses next week, as South Tyneside Council and development partner Muse Developments will be holding a public consultation on the proposals.
The consultation will provide an opportunity for the public to find out more about the development of the interchange and changes to the road network, which are included in phase two of the town’s redevelopment. Attendees will also be able to meet the people behind the exciting vision for the future of South Shields town centre. The proposed future plans for the remainder of the masterplan will also be available for the public to view.
Extensive discussions have already taken place with Metro operator Nexus the main bus operators, the Hackney Carriage Association and the private taxi operators.
The partnership between South Tyneside Council and Muse Developments, one of the country’s leading names in urban regeneration, has resulted in ambitious proposals to transform South Shields town centre and provide lasting improvements to the town.
The South Shields 365 vision will mean improvements are made to all aspects of community life – from the shopping and leisure offer, to the way people travel to, from and around the town centre.
The second phase of redevelopment in the town will build upon work already on-going including construction of The Word, the North East Centre for the Written Word, the region’s state-of-the-art new cultural venue. In addition to this, improvements are currently being made to the adjacent Market Place.

“The development of a new transport interchange in South Shields is a fundamental part of our 365 masterplan and vision for the town centre.”
“The integrated facility would bring together a new bus interchange and relocated, refurbished Metro station, improving the sense of arrival and connectivity for visitors.”
“With the first phase of the 365 plan well underway, there has been significant work alongside Nexus and our other partners behind the scenes to develop the plans for this bespoke hub which aims to deliver the best possible transport public transport links for our town centre.”

The public consultation event will take place from 2pm –7pm on Thursday 18 June in South Shields Museum and Art Gallery, Ocean Road and 12pm-4pm on Saturday 20 June 2015 in South Shields’ Central Library, Prince Georg Square following which the exhibition of plans will tour various location in the town – information on these locations can be found on the consultation website, where people can also keep up to date and give feedback on the regeneration of South Shields town centre.: South Shields 365 Feedback
